I am trying to find out what happened to Alfred Henry Hands, a jeweller, between 1891 and 1901. He was born in Birmingham in July of 1845. He was twice married. First wife was Julia Jane Courtly who died young. His second wife, my great grandmother, was Jane Hands. Sometime between the two dates given above it is said by my late mother that he abandoned his wife and family and emigrated to Australia. I have been unable to find a death date for him in this country so there may well be substance to the emigration story.
