Dear Brad
I can't say for certain that there is a link, however, my 3rd Great Grandfather James Handford (who was born in Knowstone near South Molten) had a son by the name of Joseph Hill Handford. The Handford and the Hill families owned land in this area from at least 1645 to about 1867, stretching as far as Wellington in Somerset. Although, James Handford was born in 1800 we have yet to find his christening record. If you have any additional information which might help us both I will gladly supply you with everything I have discovered in the 20 years I have been researching the subject.Incidentally, this may or may not apply to you but there is a hereditry disease which we know goes back to at least my 3rd Great Grandfather but only affects any offspring 50/50.Those who are not born with it are not carriers of the gene so if there was a link it does not mean you would have it but there may be earlier generations in your family who may know of its existence. It is not life threatening, I am glad to say, and is called Nail & Patella Syndrome. There is little or no nail on the thumbs and on the index finger the nail is split down the middle.
I look forward to your response.
Best Wishes
Robert Handford
