I haven't had any luck finding anything else. I find Ireland birth records only up to 1851 and since Michael was born 1861 that doesn't help any.
And since he came over in 1884 and Mary Ellen came in 1886 (there were oodles of Hickeys in Ireland and in the immagration records)--the 1900 Census would be the next one and we found it. I couldn't find ship manifest for Mary Ellen. They either were the wrong year or the wrong age. Of course the 1900 Census could be wrong on that date, too..I checked the original manifest for Michael and it appears that he came over alone. And it shows he was a painter.
I did find that the majority of the Hand families lived in either Dublin or Kerry. And the name Hand was originally McClave (McLave), meaning hand.
And this:
They did not marry until 1888--in the US. So I assumed that they did not even meet until after they came over.

Don't know if this is the same Mary Ellen Hand, and she altered her name ?,since no record of her arrival has surfaced....
If anyone has any info about Mary Ellen Hand, or Micheal Hand, or any of the other children of Micheal and Mary Ellen Hickey, I would really appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks!
