I am endeavouring to trace back some Hancox that originated from Dudley (and did not emigrate to the US!)
To date, I have traced back to a Job Hancox (b. about 1849) who married a someone called Keturah ??? (b. about 1851). They had at least 3 children - Job, William and Alice born about 1878 (my great-great grandmother).
Alice married an Elijah Prosser and they lived in Barrow in Furness, Lancs (although the rest of the Hancox remained local to Dudley/Netherton).
Job seems to be the name given to the first born son, and Alice is a name that appears in most generations (it also seems that quite a few of the Hancox men seemed to marry someone called Alice as well).
If this connects with anyone elses line, please get in touch.
As an side, I would also be interested to hear about the origins of the name Keturah as it's one I hadn't heard of before (assuming it has been transcribed correctly!) I assume the name had local origins?
