I have some info on some Hancocks that moved to Sevier Co. from Chester, SC. I'm not sure if they are related to your Hancock or not, but they fit the name, place, and time frame. The names are Lewis Hancock and Francis Hancock. Both served in the 9th TN Cavalry Vol. of the USA. Lewis could be a cousin or brother or something. Here is what I have:

Francis M. Hancock
b-about 1833 in South Carolina
d-June 23, 1864 in Gallatin, TN of typho malarial fever
served in company "C" of the 9th TN Cavalry Vol., U.S.
married to: Sarah Teague
b-abt 1835 in South Carolina
d-unknown, in Sevier Co., TN
their children were as follows:
George Washington Hancock b-unknown, d-unknown
James F.M. Hancock b-unknown, d-unknown
Issac LaFayette Hancock, b-June 13, 1857 in Kodak, TN; d-November 16, 1917 of the influenza in Kodak, TN
Lewis Irwin Hancock b-abt 1855, d-unknown

Lewis Hancock
b-about 1811 in Chester, South Carolina
d-February 29, 1864 at Nashville General Hospital, Nashville, TN, died of inflammation of the bronchi and pluri, believed to be buried in Nashville National Cemetery
served in company "E" of the 9th TN Cavalry Vol., U.S. in the Civil War
married to: Jane Worthy, b-abt 1807 in South Carolina, d-unknown
married on January 15, 1834, in Chester, South Carolina
their children were as follows:
Francis M. Hancock (listed above)
Amanda C. Hancock, b-abt 1836 in South Carolina, d-unknown

it should be noted that the Hancocks came to Sevier Co. Tn sometime after 1840 and they dropped the "d" from their last name, which was originally "Handcock"
I found most of this information on the Sevier Co. TN Genweb page under Military Pensions of Sevier Countians
