It has been almost one year since the project began. We now have 10 members!!! We have made a great start towards understanding the genetic roots of various Hamby and Hanby families, but there is still a long way to go. Genetic genealogy rests on statistical analysis and probability, and those are only so good as the sample size of whatever group one is studying. We have a modest public website set up at the moment, which you can access:
Due to the good number of Hambys with roots in the Carolinas, we are learning a great deal about their early settlement and relations.
We would very much like to find probable or known descendants of Richard Hanby from Virginia. The lack of Richard's known and probable descendants in the project constitutes a major gap in our knowledge.
I have recently learned of an Irish branch of the Hanby family as well, and it would great if we had some to join us. Also, there are many Hanbys today in Yorkshire, England, and their presence would be most welcome. In fact, while in the USA Hambys outnumber Hanbys, it is the opposite case in England, where Hanbys outnumber Hambys by almost three or four to one. We currently have two English Hambys in the project. I would love to see some of the English Hanbys represented as well.
