James Hanan on USS Narcissus

There is a James Hanan that was a Coal Heaver on the Civil War Union Tug, USS Narcissus. James enlisted in the Navy from the Army on 30 April 1864. He may have been from New York. I plan on reviewing his Navy Rendezvou Report next week from the National Archives.

By the way, James and the entire crew of the USS Narcissus were lost at sea on 4 Jan. 1866 while the ship was returning to New York from Florida. It sank off of Egmont Key. It is reportly the first time a US Navy Steam ship sank with the loss of all hands.
