Sharon, Most of what I got on Jacob Hamsher was furnished by others doing Hamsher genealogy. The Family Treemaker company probably loves me for all of the CD's I have bought from them. There is one with birth records for Southeastern Pennsylvania, that shows Jacob's date of birth. Other information came from Tim McGrath who is a distant cousin through Daniel Hamsher's younger brother, Barnet (I've also seen Bernard for him). Jacob born January 31, 1792, in Kreidersville, Allen Twp, Northampton Co. PA, died July 6, 1872 in Sandusky Co., OH. He married Sarah Anderson October 22, 1820. She was born August 1, 1804 in Vermont, and died August 19, 1869 in Sandusky Co., OH. I found some references to them in the Mormon website (Familysearch.com, I believe). In my material, I have only two children, and one was born in about 1821 and the other in 1846, leading me to wonder if I have two generations mixed up.
I found more on the New York side of the family a couple years back. Daniel ended up in Sparta Twp., Livingston Co., NY, and two of the boys seem to have gone west. John Peter to Michigan but ended up in western Ohio. The material I have seen on Jacob indicates he wound up in Sandusky Co., OH.
I did some checking last year, and found large numbers of Hamsher households in northeastern Ohio who descend from John Peter Hamsher. He also had descendents who moved to Kansas, and spread to many areas from there. He went by Peter Hamsher. The only two descendents of Jacob I have anything on are Charles born in 1845 and a Margaret born in 1821. Much of this I found on the Mormon web site, but I know some of this might have inaccurate dates, as I found something there on my great grandfather, Jonas Hamsher and his wife, Cornelia Woodruff, that is very off from documentation I have on them.
I got real lucky inheriting material from my parents and grandparents on Adam Hamsher (Hamscher) who came to Pennsylvania in 1753, and had five children, including Daniel. A Paul Burdick sent material to my grandparents in the 60's, and a David Homsher (descends from Adam Hamsher's cousin Anton) in the 70's. I also found a manuscript in Dansville NY by Alice Moose Oakes, who updated the Daniel Hamsher descendents who had closer ties to New York in the late 1970's. It had more emphasis on the ones who stayed in the Dansville area (Sparta Township is just north of there, and the village of Dansville was in Sparta Township until a separate township was formed).
One thing about seeing the name Hamsher. If its spelled that way, its very likely the person is related to Adam Hamsher. I have seen Hampsher show up a lot, but usually with Jacob Hamsher and descendents. Homsher shows up often for descendents of Anton Hamscher. Although I have seen long lists of the Hamsher spelling for people from England originally, and I think pockets of them in the northeast and the Detroit area. There was a John Hamsher who was in Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary War, who I haven't seen anyone be able to connect to the rest of the Adam Hamsher line. Many in his line also spell the name Hampshire, and its a long line of his descendents. Also some Hamsher names in the Dayton OH area who descend from Hamsher/Hammacher families from the Alsace-Lorraine area along the German/French border, who came over in the 1870's, and do not appear related. dh
