Hi Eugene:

Thank you for your response. I have not decided exactly what my plan will be. Hope to make that decision soon.

As you are aware, I am researching my HAM(M)ON(D)(S) family lineage and have managed to hit another brick wall. Perhaps, you or other readers of GenForum can help.

After years of looking, I have compiled several thousands of entries in my record. Originally, I tried to prove that my family descended from the Immigrant, Ambrose HAMOND. When Y-DNA tests proved that solution could be wrong, I immediately went to work trying to prove that the Immigrant Job HAMMOND Sr. was my ancestor. Sadly, another Y-DNA test may have proven me wrong again. See the first message in this string.

My genealogical record can be found at the following web site address:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/a/i/Jimmie--D-Mains/index.html

My thoughts regarding DNA testing are presented on pages 5 - 9 in the section entitled: "DNA Thoughts". Results of DNA testing can point us in the right direction when a paper trail meets a road block. The two research methods (paper trail and DNA testing) can be used in conjunction with each other to provide a route leading backwards in time to our early ancestors.

My questions are as follows:

a. Do you see a possibility that our HAM(M)ON(D)(S) family lines could be connected?

I feel confident that my findings back to and including my gggg grandfather, John HAMMONDS, have been proven. He was the spouse of (1) Polly (or Mary) DENNEY and (2) Rachel Rebecca JOHNSON. However, I could be way off base with the assumption that he was the same John HAMMOND(S) (b. 17 Dec 1750; North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia Colony), son of John and Ann HIGHTOWER HAMMOND Jr. who migrated with his family to South Carolina from Virginia. These men could be two different people. In fact, he could have descended from your ancestral line???

The first mention of the existence of my gggg grandfather, John HAMMONDS, was recorded on 10 Jun 1786 in the Minutes of the South Fork of Roaring River Baptist Church of Wilkes County, NC. That record indicates that John HAMMONDS (or HAMON) was a Member and Elder of the Church. About 1799, he moved his family to Lincoln County, KY and probably died there after 1820.

b. Do you know of any direct male descendant of your HAMMOND surname family who has participated in a DNA test? If so, could you point me in the direction where I can find the results of those tests. I would like to compare them with my family tester's results.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Jim
