I haven't run into the Hammatt name in Southern Maryland. There were Hammett's on the eastern shore of Maryland in either Virginia or Maryland. It is possible that spelling comes from that area.

My research I tried to limit to St. Mary's, as the family went back almost to 1634 the founding of Maryland. They landed settled then began to move into other areas.
