Donna-
Thanks so much for your reply! I don't know if my Henry Hammett could be "John Henry." I think it's possible, but he never seems to have used John or even the initial J. at any time during his life.

I am struck by the similarity of names, however. My Henry's first two children were named James and Sarah. And he named a son John H. (John Henry?) and a daughter Missouri. If James Hammet of Franklin Co, GA is not his father, then I would think he must be closely-related somehow.

Do you have a will or any land records for this James Hammet? Maybe he mentions where his son John Henry was living when he died or when his children divided up his property?

Thank you again! I'll just keep looking to see what I can find.

Dan
