My great grandmother was Henrietta Hemmell Russell Mackey. Death certificate says Hemmel but can find no trace of this name. Her mother was Sarah Jane Smith (Smeets was the original dutch name) Russell. Sarah Jane's parents were Garrit and Elizabeth Hedges. Henrietta was born in Newark,New Jersey between l844-6. Sarah Jane's parents lived sometimes in Newburg and sometimes in the Newark area. Possibly her husband was a boatman. Could there be any connection to your Johan? Sarah Jane Russell was married to a Christopher Brill Russell b. l8l8 in Dutchess County. The Brills were German and were Palatines. I notice some of your ancestry is in the area of Ulster county and thought there might be a connection. Thanks Arlene
