Not necessarily. Isaac is in the same age group as the 2 Hammel men I found on the 1850 Fayette County census. He may be a brother to these men.

David Hammel was born circa 1805 in Maryland. His wife, Catherine, is 35 and born in Ohio. They have 7 children and probably more--Jackson (May 1835), Monroe (1838), George W. (1840), Clinton (1844), Mary E. (1845), Martha A. (1850), and David (1858).

Joseph Hammel was born C. 1809 in Maryland, his wife, Mary Ann, was 37 and born in Maryland. 5 children on the 1850 census--Mary Ann (1835), Simon (1838), Margaret (1839), Joseph (July 1843), and Jacob (1843).

This Simon (1838) is the one who married Nancy Huber July 27, 1866 in Fayette County, Illinois. She filed for his pension in 1893 in Kansas.

Thanks,
Lynne
