Looking for My Mother, Eva Marie (HAMM) Schmidt/Schmitt b before 1838 Germany

My name is Margaretha (Schmitt)Leyck Heymann and I was born to John Schmidt and Eva Marie Hamm in Mainz, Germany in 1848. My parents,sister, and brothers moved to the USA, settling in New York State.
My sister Elizabeth born 1838 married a Frederick Fluegel and lived on Staten Island, New York. Peter who was born 1940 lived in New York City and served for the Union in the Civil war. William, I beleive, lived in Brooklyn, and I may have a third brother, George.
