am seraching for information on the family of Helen or Hellena Hamm, born about 1807 in Prussia. She appears in the 1860 Waukesha Township Census living in the household of her son William, age 24 with daughter Agnes age 14, and sons John age 12 and Michael age 8. I believe a Kate Hamm, age 16, working as a servant in the home of William Sanford is also a member of her family.
An article in the Jan 13, 1933 edition of the Waukesha Freeman quoting excerpts from "German Pioneers of New Berlin" mentions the arrival of a Chris. (Christian?) Hamm in 1848 which would be consistent with the birth of John in Wis in 1848 but does not list family members.
Nothing was found in the 1850 or 1870 Waukesha County Census records but in 1880 she appears in the household of Jacob Bach, her son-in-law, who married Agnes.
Her death is recorded in the April 13, 1893 edition of the Freeman but no mention is made of her husband or surviving children and grandchlidren.
She may be the ancestor of the Hamm twins who were Olympic gymnasts in 2004 and are from Waukesha.
