My ancestors John and David Hamiter married sisters, Rhoda and Patience Hodges. They left Georgia in the 1840's in a group that comprised 25 whites and 250 slaves. They settled in northwest Louisiana and southeast Arkansas. My grandmother was Rachael Patience Hamiter, daughter of Robert Edmund Hamiter, son of John Hamiter. David Hamiter married Rhoda and evidently bore a son David Hodges Hamiter whose Confederate military records are in my possession. Robert Edmund had an older brother, John Hodges Hamiter. Their father John, lost everything in the war, having heavily invested in Confederate bonds.
