I do not have a lot of information at all about him but here is what I have and maybe it will sound familiar to somebody. My GGgrandmother was Mary E. COYNE. She was the first police woman in NYC. I have one of her old badges and it is listed in 1922 so this could take place around then. Mary E. COYNE and John CROWLEY had a son John Anthony CROWLEY (b. Jan 11, 1894 d. 1978). Mary and John never married. There was a William HAMILTON that worked with Mary in the NYC police department and was known in our family as 'Uncle Billy' so we are guessing was a boyfriend to Mary. Mary and her son John Anthony both changed their last name to HAMILTON. We have a record of John Anthony CROWLEY changing his last name to HAMILTON in Jun of 1942 but him and his mother were both using the last name HAMILTON before that date. We are led to believe that they changed their name to possably claim some kind of inheritance from William HAMILTON. Anyway, my last name should actually be CROWLEY but is was changed to HAMILTON most likely due to William HAMILTON. I am looking to find out any information on William or even more information on Mary if anybody comes across anything. -Dave HAMILTON Notify Administrator about this message?
