Hi
Does anyone know anything about the Hammel/Hammell family who emigrated to South Africa from ? and changed their surname to Hamman at about the time of the Boer War, I think, for some unknown reason, ostensibly to avoid fighting against the Afrikaners??
This is a huge brick wall for me - any help would be appreciated.
