Hi,

You may find the Lancashire Online Parish Clerk records helpful (http://www.lan-opc.org.uk).

There's a marriage record for a Jabez Hamer and an Ellen Crossley both of Blackstone Edge which fits with them both saying they are from Blackstone in the 1851 census. There isn't a christening record for Jabez around 1798 but there's a marriage record for a Jabez Hamer of Sladen and a Sarah Greenwood of LittleBro' in 1798 and these could be his parents. There's also a christening record for this Jabez in 1771 and, guesswork again, maybe his parents marriage, Jabez Hamer and Ann Lawton in 1768.

Could be worth a look at the actual parish registers for 1797-99, the OLPC records seem to have been transcribed from the Bishop's Transcripts and his christening may have been missed out.

Good Luck

Dave
