York, Jan.6 - MRS. LUCY HAMER MONTGOMERY, wife of E.A. MONTGOMERY, superintendent of the York city schools, died this morning following an illness of several months. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow by her pastor, REV. R.L. HOLROYD, and the interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
MRS. Montgomery was 44 and was born and reared at Tatum, S.C. She was the d/o THOMAS R. HAMER and LILLIE F. HAMER. She was educated at Columbia College and completed her musical education at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston. She was in charge of the music dept. of the York city schools at the time of her death. She was a woman of exemplary Christian character, kind and sympathetic disposition and was liked by all who knew her.
Surviving are her husband and 2 children; MISS LILLIAN MONTGOMERY, a junior at Winthrop College and a son, EMIL MONTGOMERY; also a sister, MRS. J.V. ELGIN of Baltimore and 3 brothers, A.L. HAMER of Charleston, T.H. HAMER of Bennettsville and L.D. HAMER of Bluffton. As a mark of respect to her, the city schools will not be in session today and tomorrow.
