Hello Helen,
I've been trying to find you.
Your message stunned me. Amos' brother Gilbert was my grandfather. Gilbert also was a stone mason.
His son Rodney was my dad. He started out laying brick, and ended up a big-time contractror in Utica, president of four companies.
Russell was my brother. There was also a sister, Pearl, both by my Dad's first wife, Laura Murray.
How's that for a "hit?"
I have the Hamelin genealogy back to the Stone Age, but the near generations are always harder to pin down, because most aren't on the internet yet. I have Amos as one of Joseph's nine children, the others being Alexandre, Laura (Roode), Mary Ann (Martineau), Clary, Vira (Henderson), Angeline (Dupuis), Joseph Jr. and Gilbert.
Their parents were Alexis Hamelin and Marguerite Robert, each of whom had cousins hung (among the 12) after the abortive Canadian rebellion of 1837-38 -- excellent motivation to find a new country. I have only six children, born years apart, which makes me think there were more: Scholastique (Paquet-Lavallee), Narcisse, Joseph, Moise, Angeline (Surprenant) and Marie-Elese (Ouellette).
For Amos and Laura (LaChance? LaChaunce?), I have five children: Orpha or Arpha, b. 1890, same year as my father; Eusebe Albert, Lina Mercedes, Dora Margaret and Thomas George.
I have dates if you don't. I need dates if you have 'em. I hope you get back to me, like, yesterday! Like the Watergate Committee, I am anxious to know what you know and when you knew it!
