More Hamby info
More info on 1790 Census:From the 1790 index-Wm. Hamby is listed 2 houses before and Saml. Hamby is listed 2 houses after Jeremiah Hamby. Francis Hamby is listed several houses before and John Hamby is listed on the next page, with no other Hambys listed in Greenville County, SC.
On 9-18-1796 John Hamby sells 100 acres to Isaac Perkins for 60 Pounds Sterling money.Signed by John(x)Hamby and Sary(x)Hamby (should read Sarah).Witnessed by: Benj. Griffin, Wm.(x)Hamby, James(x)Scrugs. Recorded Jan.1797.
Note: Benj Griffin is the only house listed between Wm. and Jeremiah. Also the Scruggs family is later listed in Rabun Co., Ga.This land was on both sides of Laurel Creek and was originally granted to William Hamby by his excellency Benjamin Guerard January 21, 1785.
This seems to be a close knit family.I believe Jeremiah is the Father and 4 of his sons. He also shows as having 2 females (wife & a daughter?)
The Hamby papers show William as having gone to Rabun Co., Ga. and John shows in Greenville Co., SC 1790-1840.
More later.Ken.
