Hi, This info came from a website about relocating in Clearfield, Utah. It gave a short history about the Habout the Hamblins. Perhaps you will find it useful.

Clearfield is about 25 miles from Salt Lake City, and 9 miles from Ogden making it an easy commute to either of the bigger cities via Interstate 15. Our population as of 2005 was 27,413; this is an increase in Clearfield citizens of about 5% since the year 2000. The city of Clearfield land mass covers 7.7 square miles of majestic earth. The Wasatch Mountains give us a fantastic sunrise each morning. Since the elevation is at 4,487 we receive on average about 58 inches of snow per year. You can expect snowfall from October to May in any given year. Although the temperatures can go down to the 20īs and 30īs in the winter months, December has been known to give us a warm 40 degrees.

Clearfield was first settled by a couple from England. The Hamblinīs migrated from their home country in 1875 and were living with relatives in Layton. Wanting to have an opportunity to build their own home they cleared land and made a home with a thatched roof about 4 miles away where Clearfield is today. It was 1877 and the Hamblinīs were quite content in their new home except for having to bring water over from Kayīs Creek in Layton. Mr. Hamblin dug many a surface well hoping to produce water closer to home. Thank goodness for the strength and perseverance of these early settlers as Mr. Hamblin finally hit water in 1881, 4 years of trying finally paid off. He built a windmill and was able to supply irrigation to his little patch of heaven. The Hamblinīs grew sweet red strawberries and sold them all over the area. 1884 the East Canyon Dam was complete and the Davis and Weber Counties Canal provided water to Mr. Hamblin and the other settlers.

More people of strength were making their mark on the land of Clearfield and soon schools, grocers, and many other farmers growing tomatoes and other fruits started popping up. By 1892 there was quite a surplus of produce and the farmers gathered together and started the Woods Cross Canning Cooperative. With the Utah Central Railroad coming through Clearfield in 1869 the population was growing in the area, the success of the canning company grew as well. And once the Bamberger Electric Railroad started taking passengers from Clearfield to Ogden and Salt Lake City in 1905 the citizens of Clearfield were truly blessed. Jumping to World War II workers were in high demand. The cannery hired Japanese-Americans that had no place to go and German and Italian prisoners of war. The cannery later closed due to a fire in 1970.
