Thank You Lester for posting this info.
This is of HUGE interest to me as my MOODY family is connected to this line and the ONLY Moody Indian's I have been able to locate were of the NARRAGANSET tribe in RI. Daniel MOODY and his family were on the tribe list in 1881 I believe was the year.
I know my 3rd grt. grandfather Dr. Joseph D. MOODY was an Indian and a doctor in Lowell, MA for many years. My grt. grandmother told stories of how "strange" he was and I have a picture of her husband (one of Dr. Joe's grandson's) in one of his full headdress Indian costumes.
I do not know Anything of his Indian people, but I believe that my branch of the family changed their last name to better blend in with the whites. It is appearing more and more that my family name may have actually been THOMAS or Tomah in the Indian tongue. However, there are links of the Thomas name among the Crockett's too.
My story is a Very long and tedious one and Beyond frustrating. I wish that there had been one single reliable Source cited at FamilySearch.org on this Mary Hyanno, but as is typical of them their sources are generally submitted by "Patron's" and not checked listed as a VR source or whatever. Thus, I tend not to believe anything I read on their site unless is quotes a source for TOWN Records or Vital Records or something that's sort of reputable like that.
The "Princess of the Narragansett's" part of this story made me very suspicious that this is again, just another "word of mouth" story passed on through a family somewhere. It very well ~Could~ be true, but my guts say that part is most likely not. The Indian link is Most Likely true. As I was told a good while back, "If you have stories that someone in your family was an Indian, it is probably true because No one wanted to admit that years and years ago."
Thanks again for posting this info and I will definitely do some more research on this.
M.
