Charles....you and I have exchanged information on the David Davidson and his wife Mary "Maza" Phillips who lived in Halifax Co., VA by the time of their deaths (with children that included Moses Davidson...who was eventually in Franklin Co., VA...and Solomon Davidson). As you may recall, I am relatively certain that this David Davidson (born about 1762 in Charles City Co., VA...CCCo) was a son of Solomon and Mary (Unknown) Davidson of CCCo.Solomon Davidson (died by 1770 in CCCo, as I recall) was almost certainly a son (or other close relative) of the David Davidson who died in CCCo about 1756.
The above older David Davidson (who died about 1756) had a Stephen Davidson as the executor of his will, and I would not be surprised if this Stephen Davidson was a son of this older David Davidson....AND I would not be surprised if this Stephen Davidson received his "given name" because of some "close connection" (probably a marriage) to the family of Stephen Hamblen/Hamblin of CCCo.
The above older David Davidson (again, died about 1756) was a son of yet another/even older David Davidson, and this "oldest" David Davidson died in James City Co., VA (JCCo) in 1687 (his "naturalization papers" show that he was born in Holland).
Note: The Davidson land in JCCO became part of CCCo in 1720 (when CCCo obtained the land in JCCo that was west of the Chickahominy River; the Davidson land was in an area that was/is known as "Pease Hill").
Note: A Wlliam Davidson also died in 1687 in JCCo.It is not known, however, how/if that William Davidson was related to the David Davidson who also died there in 1687, and it is not known if this William Davidson married and/or fathered any children.
The wife of the above "oldest" David Davidson in JCCo was a Sarah Unknown, and after her husband died, Sarah was assisted in 1688 with the estate of her deceased husband by a William Hunt and a THOMAS HAMBLEN.I would not be surprised if Sarah was a Hunt or a Hamblen....and/or I would not be surprised if the "second" David Davidson (who died in 1756) was married to a Miss Hamblen (and hence, they named a son "Stephen" after Stephen Hamblen).
Do you know if Stephen Hamblen had a sister, daughter or granddaughter who could have married either the "oldest" David Davidson, or perhaps more likely, the second David Davidson (who would have been born no later than 1687-1688...it appears that he was an infant when his father... the "oldest" David Davidson...died in 1687)?
Yet another/fourth David Davidson, almost certainly from the above family (per a lot of research), was born about 1715, and he appeared on the tithe list in Goochland Co., VA in 1746 with his likely brothers (or other close relatives) Edward Davidson and William Davidson. These three men lived in the part of Goochland Co., VA that became Cumberland Co., VA a little later. That David Davidson also had a son named "Stephen."David, Edward and William Davidson then appeared on the 1764 tithe list in Buckingham Co., VA. I suspect that these three men were also sons (or other close relatives) of the David Davidson who died in CCCo in 1756.
It is interesting that a member of the Hamblen family (Mackerness Hamblen) ended-up in the same area of VA as the descendants of David Davidson (born about 1762) and Mary "Maza" Phillips. That could be further evidence that one of the first two David Davidsons in JCCo/CCCo was, in fact, married to a Miss Hamblen.
Note: Other Davidsons in CCCo included Ezekiel Davidson and Philemon Davidson (it is obvious that "Biblical names" were popular in this family). In 1762, Ezekiel Davidson sued Stephen Davidson in chancery court in CCCo, and four "non-Davidson" men and their wives joined Ezekiel in this court case against Stephen Davidson.I suspect that these four wives were Davidson women who had married into varous other families in the area.Philemon Davidson was then the executor of the will of Ezekiel Davidson (later in 1762).Philemon Davidson then left his own will in CCCo in 1773, as I recall.Comments on any of the above?
