Mary Hamaker m. John Brown - Alabama

I am searching for information on Mary Hamaker. She married John Brown, date unknown. She was born cir. 1840-1850. They were listed on the Blount County, Alabama census in 1880. My great grandfather was John's oldest son, Sheppard. I am uncertain as to whether Mary was his mother or step-mother. John's 2nd son was Henry. Henry was either given up for adoption or ran away from home (or both)and ended up in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas. Sheppard lists in a later census that his mother was from Georgia. I am not sure if he is referring to Mary or not. Any help out there?
