I am trying to learn more about my Halls ancestors and relatives and may have a link to you.
I have a copy of a letter written in the 1940’s in which my great grandfather Sidney Arthur King refers to the Rector of Balsham, Burrell, as being a cousin through his mother, a member of the Halls family. Sidney Arthur King’s paternal grandparents were James Cornell King (1799-1870) and Mary Halls (1798?–1851), who married in 1834 and lived in Gazeley Suffolk. James Cornell King’s elder sister Anne King (1792-1852) married William Halls in 1817. He may have been a relative of Mary Halls. I have received correspondence from the current Rector of Balsham who has informed me that the Reverend Burrell’s mother’s given name was Louisa and that he thought Reverend Burrell came from the Burrell family of steam traction engine fame. The Burrell family that became prominent for manufacturing steam traction engines were based in Thetford Norfolk.
These links to the previous queries are all very tenuous but plausible nonetheless. Has anyone come across the surnames King or Burrell or references to the towns Gazeley or Balsham in their research into the Halls family? Does anyone have a William Halls or Mary Halls born late 1700’s/early 1800’s? Does anything here fit with anyone’s findings?
I would be grateful for any advice relating to the above information and/or Halls families of Thetford.
