Art Hallinan,
I've been in touch with both Mike Hallinan and Myrna Hallinan both on the Hallinan forum, both from Australia originally. No relation that's obvious at this point. I'm a cousin of Melanie Hallinan, Australia, in the Hallinan Forum, and our antecedant was Thomas hallinan who married Katherine Keating, (Caton), and arrived in Sydney, Australia in 1851. They were married in Ennis. He came from Ennis. She came from Ennisdiamonmd. Melanie has Thomas' wife as someone else, but from heresay and family records, I suspect that I'm right. The problem arises with the Sandhurst gold rush in Bendigo, Victoria, when there was a general state of disarray and a couple of Hallinans with quite a lot in common.
Have you read the Catherine O'Brien books? I think they were quite radical in their day, but now out of print; in one of them she mentions a lawyer, Hallinan of Ennis. It made the Irish connection hit home to see the Hallinan name in print. There aren't too many of us around.
So, I don't think I'm all that much help, but it feels good to make the connection. I am in touch with a few other Australian unrelated Hallinan family trees, so will keep my ear to the ground for your connection. Does this forum ever update? It doesn't seem to have had anything added for a long, long, time?
Regards
Tess. E. Hallinan
