Halligan Family Genealogy Forum

Hi,
My gr-gr grandfather was John Halligan, born in Swinford in 1844 to John Halligan and Ann Solon, who were married in 1837, My gr aunt said John Halligan was the oldest of 10 children. I have found the following siblings: Anthony, bapt. July 12, 1846, Bridget, bapt, April 24, 1849, Mary, bapt Oct 3, 1851, Anne, bapt. Aug 10, 1853,Andrew, bapt. Oct 11, 1856, all baptized in Swinford. some of the godparents were Halligans. I am presently using the parish registers, which i ordered from the LDS church, they cover from the very early 1800's onward, with some gaps in the early years. The senior John Halligan owned a butcher/grocery store in Swinford. John (1844) emigrated in 1865, he said the country was still in mourning for President Lincoln. He settled in Brooklyn, NY. His sister, Anne, came to Brooklyn later, and settled there, Andrew was also in Brooklyn for a time, but I dont know what happened to Andrew after that. I am sure there were other children. I have a feeling there were some children born before John because he was born 7 years after the parents married. There was a son, Thomas, who must have been important because when he died in Australia, all the ships in the harbor had their flags at half mast. My gr Aunt was told this story by her Gr aunt, Anne hallligan Phelan (born 1853). I can do any research for you that you might want, I have the microfilm for another month (the LDS library is very generous in giving time for research). I have the parish registers for Meelick-Kilconduff, which is where Swinford is.
