Halligans from Tavneena, Charlestown, Mayo
I am researching the Halligans who lived in Tavneena (Tawnyinah), near Charlestown, in County Mayo.My earliest known ancestors were Thomas Halligan (born circa 1854) and Bridget Doherty. They had either 5 or 6 children:Mary (1883), John (1886), Michael (1888; unsure about this one--no one in the family has heard of him), James (circa 1889), Hugh (1891), Thomas (1895).This information is from the 1901 Irish Census transcription and the dates are not exact.
I also know that there were both a James and a John Halligan in Tawnyinah Middle in 1845 and 1857, according to Griffiths Valuation.I assume that one of these men was Thomas' father, probably John, since he named his first son John.
I know that Mary and Hugh went to Philadelphia,PA, John went to England (Staffordshire and Lancashire) and that Thomas (the son) stayed in Ireland.I don't know yet what happened to James. I have also found connections to the following families:Doherty (or Dougherty), Maher, McLoughlin. There were members of all 3 families who lived in Philadelphia, but came from Mayo.
Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.I would be happy to share information and photos.
