I am interested in the heirs of Capt. Thomas Randall and his son, Robert Richard Randall whose 1801 will left the family's acreage in NYC to establish a charitable foundation, Sailors' Snug Harbor,a home for aged mariners. (still in existence)
Various collateral heirs including Bishop Charles Inglis of Nova Scotia placed claims to break the will. The case went through various courts up to the US Supreme Court where the case was lost in January 1830. In appeals, Inglis lost again, as well as his married sister (?) who joined in the appeal. I have just purchased the new book, SAILORS SNUG HARBOR, A HISTORY by Gerald J. Barry.
If you have an interest in this case I can send you some excerpts from the book. I am looking for a woman (name unk.), a great-grandmother of one Frances Evans Doorly who is said to have been involved in the suits.
