Joy,Thank you for your reply. It would seem unlikely that we are directly related although your Great-Grandfather HALLAM might be connected to my Great-Grandfather Ben.May I ask if you and I are of the same vintage?I am a war-baby from 1942.Did you actually grow up in Hucknall?
My father told me that my mother's relations, the HALLAM's, were very wealthy so we may be talking about the same lost fortune. He said it went the way all family fortunes go.One generation makes the money the next enjoys it and the third generation drinks it.So it went I believe.
I know my Grandmother Mary Ann had at least one brother (maybe Jack) who, alledgedly, killed another boy at school with a kick where it hurts most, and at least one sister (Pat) whose husband was probably mother's uncle Walter. There was definitly an M. HALLAM present at my mothers birth at 71 Watnall Street, Hucknall in 1916.I do have a photo of G-grandmother Harriett holding my mother as a baby around 1917.
I think there is a statue of a HALLAM in the town square in Hucknall who I think was a wealthy benefactor.Any clues on who that might be?The Hallams were very big around South Yorkshire, there is a University named after them in Sheffield.
If you are in contact with your Hucknall relatives would you mind passing me on to them to see if we can find a connection there.
Regards,John
