Another source of the Hallam surname ?

Is the South Derbyshire 'Hallam district' ( Kirk Hallam, West Hallam and Little Hallam ) a second source of the Hallam surname, quite distinct from the Sheffield / Hallamshire one ? It is situated some forty miles from Sheffield, midway between the cities of Derby and Nottingham, approximately six miles from each.
As something of a test for this, and on the assumption that the place of origin of a location-related name such as Hallam will usually retain an above-average density of bearers of that name to the present day, I did a rough analysis of the density of Hallams in the telephone directories for Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby.
The results show that only one phone subscriber in approximately 1250 in Sheffield is a Hallam, as against one in 450 in Nottingham and one in 750 in Derby.
To me, these results suggest the probability that a considerable proportion of us are descendants of men from Kirk Hallam, West Hallam, or Little Hallam.
