MISS CARRIE HALL
AUGUST 26, 1943
The passing of Miss Carrie Hall, who died Sunday, August 22, at midnight at her home in Chatsworth, will leave a wide spread sense of loneliness in the hearts of the people of this locality.
Miss Hall was the daughter of William Clark and Olive A. Hall, born February 10, 1861, in Lowell, Ill. Living as she did in the center of the town her home became a meeting place where she graciously welcomed and entertained hundreds of callers and visitors from all walks of life, during her long life of eighty-two years.
Her devotion to her God and her church was unlimited; her fidelity and love for her friends were untiring; her generosity and kindness to those in need knew no bounds; and her sense of justice, blended with a keen sense of humor, made her an unique character in our midst.
While rugged of face and figure, an inheritance from sturdy New England forebears, perhaps, her love of beauty was outstanding and her artistic soul found expression in creating lovely pictures of intrinsic, artistic value. He most outstanding achievement, and one which gained her more than local fame is a large mural painting in the pulpit alcove of the Baptist church. This work of art Miss Hall presented to the church in 1928, as "a dedication of her talent to the house of God" and will long be regarded as a memorial of her.
A lifelong member of the First Baptist church, Miss Hall served as church organist for sixty-eight years, and also served in the Sunday school department for many years, teaching a large Bible class of women.
The Grand Prairies Conservatory of Music of Onarga, was her Alma Mater in music, and Miss Hall in former years taught music in Chatsworth and vicinity.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church, the Reverends Mr. Waechtes and Mr. Woodley having charge of the services. A quartette consisting of E.R. Stoutemyer and Miss Elsie Stoutemyer and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bess, rendered beautiful music, with Mrs. Stoutemyer accompanying at the piano.
Interment was made in the Chatsworth Cemetery.
She is survived by eight nieces and three nephews. One niece, Miss Jo Hall, made her home with her.
