Nathaniel Hall - SC/GA
Is Nathaniel Hall who shows up in the 1810s and 1820s tax lists of Franklin County, GA (see ancestry.com for Georgia Tax Digests) the same Nathaniel (born between 1770 and 1772)who was the son Rev. Nathaniel Hall, the Baptist minister of Pendleton area who made his will in 1793???
I am trying to determine if this Nathaniel Hall (the younger) might be the father of my ancestor, Julia Hall (b. ca.1802) who wed John W. Payne in 1822 Franklin County, GA.
In the 1840 census of Gwinnett County, GA, we find Reuben Westbrook living next door to John W. Payne.Reuben Westbrook had married Tabitha Hall in 1828 in Franklin County.I am convinced that Tabitha Hall Westbrook and our Julia Hall Payne were sisters and lived next door to each other in 1840.An older son of Tabitha was named Nathaniel Hall Westbrook, and this is what has pointed me in this direction.
I note that one online tree mentions that this Nathaniel (son of Rev. Nathaniel Hall) died ca. 1826, but in the Anderson County, SC area.I'd like to know the source of this information. It is interesting to me because about 1826 is when my Nathaniel of interest disappears from the tax records of Franklin County.
Nathaniel was not of very substantial means apparently as most of his tax records indicate he paid the poll tax only, and I have found no estate record that might enlighten us on all his children/heirs.
Any comments or guidance in solving this mystery will be most appreciated!Steve Strickland, Marietta, GA
