I recently purchased a family album containing 17 studio portraits, including the subject ones of a couple and their youngest child. The photos of the husband and wife were taken by A. H. Hall, Chatsworth, IL, and both cardboard mounts bear a printed date of 1887. The photo of the child bears no studio name or location. All three photos are identified on the back in the same period handwriting:
"Uncle Justin Hall"
"Aunt Sarah Hall"
"Grace Hall"
I found Justin S. Hall listed in the 1850 and 1860 Census data for Vermilion, LaSalle Co., IL; the 1880 Census data for Butler, Vermilion Co., IL; and the 1900 and 1910 Census data for Urbana, Champaign Co., IL. He is listed in seven public member trees posted on ancestry.com.
Justin Smith Hall, born 12 or 24 Apr 1840 in ME, died 24 May 1928 in IL, was the son of Elbridge Gerry Hall (1810-1881) and Hannah Kent Robinson (1815-1875). On 28 Jan 1869, he married Sarah Mehitable Stanford, born May 1845 in IL. The couple had four children. Grace Eva Hall was born Aug 1884 in IL.
Other surnames appearing in this album are Burgess, Egerton, Hutchinson, McNabb, Porter, and Stanford.
