M. E. Hall, Early-Day Rancher, Dies Thursday
The list of true oldtimers dwindled by one Thursday when Merriman E. Hall, Fremont county resident since 1884, died at his home 625 North 19th at 3:30 p.m.
The 87-year-old retired rancher had been in declining health since 1941 when he suffered a stroke. SInce that time he was able to be up and around at times but his last visit outside his home was last New Year's day when he spent the day with a son, Will R., of Four-Mile.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Wilson Drawing rrom with Dr. Benjamin Eitelgeorge officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery.
Mr. Hall was born April 29, 1862, in Marion, N.C., and remained there to secure his education.
In April, 1884, he came to Colorado and settled on Beaver Creek, where he ranched with a brother until 1906. It was during that period, in May, 1888, that he was married at Beaver Creek to Martha Fleming.
The family moved in 1906 to Four-Mile and from 1911-1912 spent a one-year period in Howard. They then returned to the Four-Mile district to continue ranching until 1928. At that time they established residence in the present family home.
Surviving are his wife; four children, W. R. of Four-mile, Hester Holbrook of Pueblo, Ben F. of River Sioux, Iowa, and Dorothy Northwang of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren; five grandchildren; two half brothers, T. G. of Fowler and Jim of Black Mountain. N.C.
