SYLVIA MENDENHALL was born in Green County, Indiana, January l2, l840, and died at her home in Eden Township, February l8, l9l8, of heart trouble, after two weeks of illness, at the age of 78 years, one month and 6 days.She bore her suffering patiently and everything that physicians and loved ones and friends could do was done to relieve her, but to no avail and she passed peacefullly away.She came with her parents to Decatur County, Iowa in l854 and was married to EVAN EVANS, December 9th, l858.To this union were born nine children, C.S. EVANS, of Garden Grove, I.T. EVANS, of Leon; S.N. EVANS of Chandler, Okla., MRS. MARY C. HALL, of Shawnee, Okla.; JOHN EVANS and MRS. JULIA E. WALLER, of near Leon, and NELLIE and ELECK, who died in infancy.Her husband passed away March 29th, l9l0, and since then she has lived at the old home with her daughter, MRS. (?) R. WALLER and family.
She united with the Methodist Church when l4 years of age and lived a good Christian life, loved and respected by all.She leaves to mourn her loss seven children, two brothers, JOE and JACOB MENDENHALL, of California, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
She also had one brother, NELSON MENDENHALL, living in Wayne County, whose death occurred about l0 hours before hers on the same day.
Funeral services were conducted at the home by J.N. Still, after which she was laid to rest in the Meek Cemetery, by the side of her husband.The children were all present at the funeral.Her five sons and a son-in-law, W.H. HALL, were her pall bearers.
The flowers were beautiful, a loving tribute from relatives.
