Kathy,
RE:Early Hall families in Kentucky
Moses Hall [and Edward Hall]:
Moses Hall came to Kentucky about 1780.A "Treasury Warrant" was issued to Moses and Edward Hall on the third of April, 1782 for one thousand eight hundred and eighty and one-fourth acres located in Fayette County, Ky., signed by Patrick Henry.Moses Hall was in Shelby County, July 19, 1797, as court records show he bought 300 acres at that time from Edward Worthington 9bearing date Feb. 24, 1796); was paying tax in Shelby County, 1792, on property in Cambell County, Ky.
[Page 167]
Moses Hall was married September 4, 1784 to Isabelle Stevenson, daughter of Thomas Stevenson of Lincoln County, Ky.
The above information came from the History of Shelby County Kentucky by George L. Willis, Sr.
To all out there who was looking for Moses Hall in the central Kentucky area in present day Fayette County, KY; you need to look in Shelbyville, KY.
The following information is from the book In Search of Morgan's Station and "The Last Indian Raid in Kentucky" by Harry G. Enoch:
[page 14, Reference to Edward Hall]
Others who made [land] claims in Montgomery County that summer [1779] included Jesse Peak, Edward Hall, and John and Beale Kelly.
In the above reference, my notes were in brackets.
What is interesting to me about the reference to Edward Hall, are the other people who made claims in the summer of 1779.Others who signed the "Corn Compact" by the "Association of the Settlers of Boonesboro' in 1779 for Making a Crop of Corn were:Among many others, Edward Hall, William Hall, Thomas Hall, and Nicolas Anderson who was also from Prince William County, VA.In addition, Jesse Peak and John and Beale Kelly.I wonder if many in this group traveled to Kentucky together?
[Page 80, Aaron Hall]
The act named Enoch Smith, Samuel Downing, William Mateer, Cornelius Ringo, Aaron Hall, Robert Walker and Simon Adams as the first trustees. The trustees were to lay off lots and streets, sell the lots and issue deeds of conveyance, make rules for building houses and settle all property disputes. [Mt. Sterling, KY/my note]
[page Aaron Hall and William Hall]
Aaron Hall and William Hall are listed as Montgomery County Pioneers.
Remember property lists are property list it does not mean the person ever lived in the state.I look for early Hall families that are documented as living in Kentucky.
The last reference is about Leonard Hall from the book Daniel Boone, The Life and Legend of an American Pioneer by John Mack Faragher:
[Page 249, reference to Leonard Hall]
Was it not the case that the defendant Leonard Hall had paid him a certain sum of money for his testimony? one lawyer inquiried. "[I have] not received one shilling," Boone shot back angrily, "nor was never offered any sum of money," for his testimony?although he said he "intended to charge the said Hall for his trouble."Will you gain if the land claimed in this entry is saved? another lawyer asked him in a different deposition."Not a farthing!" Boone replied."Sensitive as he was," Nathan Boone explained, "these things greatly annoyed him."
From the web site for the Life and Times of Leonard Hall, I find posted that Leonard Hall was in Kentucky ca. 1794-1809.
