Found from death certificate of John C. Washington that his mother was named Jincey Halford. I am assuming that she was daughter of John C. Halford since he is found with John C. Washington in same household in 1860 Sarepta, Calhoun Co. MS census (spelled Holford) which in fact is an error in spelling.

Learned that Halford's son, also named John, lived in Banner, Calhoun Co. MS which is a short distance from Sarepta where the senior Halford lived. John jr. married Sara Ann Costner and had a daughter named Minnie Lee Halford. I traced them through to Warren County MS and living descendents. The gentleman I spoke with told me that John C. Halford is listed on HIS grandmother's death certificate.

Also find a John Alford in same CSA unit (18th AL Inf. Co. I) as Francis M. Washington, Francis also was the senior Halford's grandson. I believe that the John jr. above and this John Alford are one in the same (perhaps another mis-spelling).

Found John C Halford land records in 1841 Lee County which was next to Russell Co. AL and known land owned by John C Halford.

John C. Halford and George Washington must have taken a trip together in 1841 to Mississippi. I found land purchased also in 1841 for John C. Halford in Jasper County MS, and land purchased in 1841 Kemper County MS for George Washington.

Now Warren County, Jasper County and Kemper County Mississippi are all in a striaght line east from Vicksburg.

I found death record for George X Washington, b. 1821, d. 1869, rec. Jul. 1870, accidental shooting, Warren Co. MS. The dates on my George's headstone state 'Sacred to the Memory of George Washington, born in Va 1821, died 1869.'
George died at 48 years of age in 1869. Also, back then, one could take the 'turnpike road' from Warren County north to Sarepta easily.

I still am not sure if John C. Halford was the John C Halford, JP of Simpson County, but these other items place him and his son-in-law George Washington in south Mississippi.

Terrie
