I believe you are looking for William Alford b. 10 Oct 1803. He shows up in the 1850 NC census in Cherokee Co., NC. It shows the following:
William - 46
Jane - 46
Charles - 22
Riley - 21
Elizabeth - 18
Nancy M - 16
Jane - 14
William - 12
Polly M - 8
John - 7 (this is my wife's ggrandparent)

I believe this William is the same William showing up on the 1840 and 1830 census on Buncombe Co., NC (the numbers look right) and it might be the William Alford showing up on the 1820 census in Tyrell Co. NC. but I have not yet found Williams Parents.

Good luck and if this information is right, please keep in touch.
