John, I am totally confused about the Cooke line!
In my research with the help of many others-mainly, John Evans retired professor from University of Alabama,:
Joel Halbert married (1) Mary Biswell, daughter of Jeremiah
Biswell and Mary Cooke It was HER father who was John Cooke and not Mary Wood Wood HALBERT Taylor's.
(I would like very much to have proof that John Cook/e
was the son of Mordecai.Does anyone have it?)
I sent you proof from John Evans that John Cooke's wife was
Susanna Pell, daughter of Timothy Pell and Alice Pell Shipley.
Later after sending you the above, I found in our library:
MARRIAGES OF SOME VIRGINIA RESIDENTS 1607-1800, Dorothy Ford Wulfect, Vol. I, page 146:
John m. before 8 Jan 1715, Susanna, dau. of Alice Shipley.
Proven by Court Record of that date, Essex Co.
In the will of Timothy Pell dated 8 Dec. 1676, he names his wife, Alice Pell, executrix, and names his daughter, Susanna, as one of his heirs.
In Essex County Deed Book 1726-1733, An indenture dated
17 March 1728 signed by Susannah Cook names Timothy Pell
as the father of Susannah Cook and, also, John Cook (her
husband) as a witness.
Alice Pell married A Mr. Shipley after the death of Timothy
Pell.
It was Mary Biswell Halbert'sgrandfather, John Cooke, who was the great-grandfather of Sarah Halbert Charles and her sister, Mary.
I think I told you previously that I am descended from both Joel Halbert's wives:Mary Biswell and Frances Halbert.
PLEASE, PLEASE If I stand to be corrected, let me know.I just would appreciate documentation of all information.
Thank you for your kindness.
