John Edward Hajek from Bohemia to United States-Civil War Vet?
I'm trying to verify if John (Thomas?) Edward Hajek served in the Civil War, and if so what Regiment?
John is buried in an unmarked grave at Santa Ana Cemetery, Santa Ana, Orange County, CA. Our Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) Camp needs to verify his Civil War service and find the unit he served in so we can order him a Civil War Monument for a grave dedication planned for Memorial Day 2009.
Los Angeles Times newspaper(dated Nov. 15, 1910, page I15) shows he received U.S. citizenship. He joined the U. S. Army and fought in the Indians wars from 1876 to 1890 and served in the U.S. Navy 1890 to 1895.The article says he was born 1852 and came from Bohemia.
The 1910 U.S. Census (Huntington Beach, Orange County, CA) indicates he served in the Civil War.
John died Dec. 5, 1917, age 66, which would make him born 1851.Pretty young to be a Civil War Veteran, but it is still possible he served.
Please contact me if you have any information on John.
