I found my Great-grandmother's box o' stuff!

I am just starting to research my Cottrell lineage. Most of the information listed below I found from the Social Security Death Index.

My father's name was Samuel Edward Cottrell III. His father Samuel Edward Cottrell II was born in Michigan on 9-28-1910 and he died in Gary, Indiana in November, 1983.

Samuel E. Cottrell II married twice as far as I know.

His first wife was Lois Cooper (my paternal grandmother). This union brought Dorthea, Dannie, and Samuel Edward III. His second wife's name is Mattie Cottrell of Gary, Indiana. This union brought Daryl Cottrell of Gary, Indiana.

Samuel Edward Cottrell II's mother was Estella Anderson Cottrell or Estella Cottrell Anderson (I am not sure if Anderson was her maiden name or a remarried name because I found 2 different social security numbers for both names). She was born 1-27-1879 and died 10-1976. I believe she had one brother, name unknown.

It is assumed that Samuel II's father was obviously Samuel Edaward Cottrell I.

A section from an old bible (I assume Estella's)lists the following categories: Marriages, Children's Names, and Deaths.

Under marriage it says," Benjamin F. George and Margaret C. Stanley married on November 17th, 1908".

Under Children it says, "Clarence Henry George born November 8, 1909; Eola Cottrell born November 20, 1913; Samuel Cottrell Born September 20, 1910; Lester Cottrell born March 4, 1908".

Under Deaths it says, "Clarence Henry George departed this life April 6th, 1910; Sam Cottrell departed from this earth on a quest; Jhon Lee Booker departed from this earth last year.

I also found an old wallet with her one of her Social Security cards, a newspaper newspaper clipping using the name Stella Anderson a nurse, and photos.

I know that either Eola or Lester had children. I have heard the mentioning of the names Perry and Marcus Gleaves. On one of the photos its says Perry was born in Kingston, Jamaica. I see a number 41 written in pencil. Maybe it means born 1941 or he was 41 when she reminisced at the photo. Donald White was another brother to Perry and Marcus. I believe he was also born in Jamaica, but his social security card was also in the wallet. It is possible that Eola Cottrell had a child named Butch, or another brother named Butch??

I also found a photo given to Grandmother Anderson from your loving grand-daughter Cynthia "69". I have a piece of a letter written Dec. 7, 1965 from LA62, Calif to "Mommy, Perry sends his love...just sending you a little something for Christina, and...". (The rest of the letter was cut off).

The following information may not have any truth to it at all. I asked my immediate family and they all seem to not know very much.

I have heard other stories and bits and pieces from family members such as, the surnames the Bookers and Turners fit in either on Estella's lineage or the Cottrell lineage.

Samuel Cottrell was a merchant seaman and was born in Florida. He worked on a ship from Nicargurga. He travelled to Alabama, Jamaica, New Jersey, Trinidad and many other places.

Samuel II met Lois Cooper in Macon, Georgia.

Samuel I was born on a ship coming from Nicarguarga and the boat docked in Pensacola, Florida. (But, it could be Perry who was born on the ship).

Estella Cottrell Anderson also travelled a great deal. There are foreign coins and stamps from all over the place in the box o' stuff.

She was a Black Seminole.

So, with all the mis-information I am trying to find out who Samuel E. Cottrell I parents were. Where was he born? Where did he die? What quest was he on when he died? Was Estella Cottrell Anderson's maiden name? What was her brother's name? What were her parent's names?

Can you help me put the puzzle together?
