James BLAIN (le jeune) was born on Dec 1st, 1813 (info from his toumbstone at Cap Haitian cimitary) on the island of Saint-Thomas, at the time a Danish colony, before being purchased by the USA and becoming one of the US Virgin Islands.
He was the natural son of James BLAIN(who was born about 1789, was a merchant in Cap Haitian died after 1842)and Marie Raphaelle SMITH (who died before 1842).

James BLAIN le jeune and Alexandrine CARVALHO were married in Port-au-Prince on August 11th., 1842, two and 1/2 month after the earth quake that completely destroid Cap Haitian.
