Jean-Pierre Lamerenx (or Lamerens), born in La Bastide-Clairence (France) in 1752, became a captain in the French army, went to Saint-Domingue (now Haiti), and took refuge in Cuba after the Haitian revolution of 1804. He died in Cuba in 1810 and was married to Françoise Silly. He had 5 children who were living in Matanzas in 1818: François-Charles, Marguerite, Jean-Baptiste, Jean, Marie. I don’t know their descendants and I would be curious to know about them if you have some information. I should mention that Jean-François Lamerenx had an uncle, Marc-Antoine de Lamerenx, who was also a captain and went to Saint-Domingue as well. I think he and his descendents returned to France, but some may have stayed in Cuba.
