My wife's grandfather was from Lebanon, supposedly from Tripoli. My guess is that he arrived in Haiti sometime around 1900. According to Haitian Birth Certificate, Lelia Charite was born 02 June 1905 to Jean Sannian and Adelaide Deronnette in Marigot. He owned and operated a dry goods store in Haiti. There was another daughter, Lydia born about 1909 also in Marigot. Sometime after that Jean Sannian left Haiti and went to Jamaica. Somewhere along the line, he changed his name to John Sarnia, the name by which he was known in Jamaica. Adelaide died in childbirth with a third child that also died. I am not sure if she died in Haiti or Jamaica. Jean raised his children in Jamaica. He married Miriam Motta and had two more children.
I am looking for any information on Jean Sannian/John Sarnia or Adelaide Deronnette in Haiti and any Lebanese connection including possibly a previous name for Jean. Any help would be appreciated.
