Right after the Haitian revolution many slaves had Celestin has their first name but had no last name. When they went to declare their children, they often gave their children the father's first name as a last name. Thay his why many Haitian have common first names as last name : Pierre, Paul, Francois, Jean-Pierre, Simon, etc. There are probably exceptions to this but I have found plenty of evidence to support this at the Archive Nationale database at www.agh.qc.ca
