Wondering about Black Haislips
Posted by: Philip Haislip (ID *****2597) Date: April 22, 2009 at 19:25:57

My Great Great Grandfather Jonathon Haislip from Marshall Co Tenn. had slaves. See the Slave Shedules in Ancestory.com. I was told that when the slaves were freed, they had taken the owner's surnames as thier own. But I was curious to know if the story about the Black Haislips were true. There are some living in Arkansas as well. I was wondering about Marcus Haislip and maybe there was a connection there?

I am From Tacoma, Wa.
My father Everett Leigh Haislip was born in Pocatello, Id, His father Ozro Allen Haislip was born in Lowell Ar.
Ozro's father was William Monroe Haislip born in Lewisburg, Marshall Co, Tenn.
William's father Jonathon Haislip was born in Marshall, Tenn.
Jonathon's father was Laban Haislip, The Revolutionary War Corporal.
