I am certain that the William, father of Columbus and Asa, et. al., is the brother of Asa in SC and has named his son for him. There is a William in the 1820 Marion County, SC Federal Census with Asa and Newell. John is on another page and William, father of Columbus and Asa also has a son John. They then appear in the 1830 census in GA having won property in Troup County in the GA land lottery. This conforms to the bio of Columbus in which he says he was born in GA. Further, William is in the 1840 Itawamba County, MS census, where Columbus apparently stays while the rest of the family moves to KS, where they appear in the 1850 census. This census notes that William is born in SC and his wife in NC, which is in line with the Columbus bio.

I am not from this line but I descend from Sarah, sister of the John in Marion (and possibly of William, Newell, and Asa, although we have not proven a sibling relationship. I would like to correspond with folks from this line.

Bill
